The Hiring Process

After giving us your contact information, you will receive a phone call from us. In a short interview we will get to know you, listen to your cleaning experience, and find out if you prefer working with a team or alone. It is typically a matter of days until you can start work for us. Our process is thorough but our goal is to get you out trained and working as quickly as possible. Get to know our recruiters here.

Founded in 1972, we now serve customers all across the State of Wisconsin. Tom Hanson

Chief Executive Officer

Tom began working for EC as a cleaner during high school. He left for college but worked off and on for EC through his grad school years. Over the course of 20 years, Tom has also done it all. He became Executive Vice President of EC in 1996, managing all of the company’s Support & Development functions, including human resources, information systems, sales and marketing, and ongoing research & development. In 2002, Tom took on the management of EC Operations. In 2014, upon John Lamb’s retirement, Tom took on the role of CEO of the company.

Tom has had a lifelong passion for music and, if he were not working for EC, he’d likely be working in the music industry. He is a singer/songwriter and guitarist, and thanks to the encouragement and support of his wife, Melody, has produced a number of CDs in his home recording studio.

David Harris

Chief Operations Officer

David has worked with Environment Control since 1992. He has moved through the ranks, doing it all: cleaner, Special Services team member, Special Services manager, Operations Manager in Madison, Operations manager of our Fox Valley branch, Regional Business Development Manager, Director of Sales. In 2013 David was promoted to Vice President of Sales in recognition of his accomplishments. In 2017, David took up the challenge of leading company Operations as Chief Operations Officer. David has a wealth of skills and experience in all aspects of cleaning operations, sales, and business development.

Married to Gina (also a longtime EC employee), David likes to play disc golf in his free time, which, unfortunately, with 3 children does not happen often enough.

Tom Osting

Vice President, Support & Development, Operations

With a degree in business and risk management in hand, Tom was hired in 1992 as Facility Manager for a large downtown facility. He supervised a crew of 20 cleaners. When the job of Human Resources Manager opened, Tom brought his education and experience in the field to the areas of Recruiting and HR. He understands the needs of field and office staff, recruiting and administrative processes, and is a skilled navigator through the complexities of employment law and insurance. Tom was promoted to Director of Human Resources in 2013. In 2017 he moved into the role of Vice President of Support & Development, shifting away from recruiting and taking on accounting (being extremely good with numbers.) In 2020 Tom added Madison Operations to his portfolio of responsibilities, taking on the job with gusto.

Tom is a sports fan and follows his favorite teams faithfully. He also enjoys karate, snowboarding, and disc golf. In 2002, Tom and his wife, Susan, have two children, both enthusiastic hockey players, which means a lot of travel for weekend tournaments.

Maria Torres

Director of Recruitment

Maria came to Environment Control in 2016 and since then has truly helped us build a strong network of referrals for recruitment. She is bilingual and also makes really delicious tamales, which she occasionally shares with her coworkers, much to their delight.

Maria was recently promoted to Director of Recruitment, managing our recruitment efforts across all three of our branch locations.

April Gonzalez

Senior Recruiter, Waukesha

April has been with Environment Control hiring for our growing Greater Milwaukee branch operations. She grew up in Texas and speaks Spanish fluently. She is an awesome recruiting force of nature and doesn’t break too many cell phones (although she won’t admit it).

Eduardo Garcia

Senior Operations Manager, Waukesha

Eduardo joined Environment Control in 2018 as Operations Manager in Madison. Before moving to Madison, he was based in Eau Claire working for company which had him managing a multi-state territory. He was glad to be able to focus on serving a smaller geographical area with more diverse customers. Eduardo is serious when it comes to work but also enjoys a good celebration.

Gaby Salazar

Sales Representative, Madison

Gaby joined Environment Control along with her husband, Eduardo Garcia, in 2018 as Sales Representative for the Madison area. She really enjoys helping new customers design the service plan that fits their specific needs. Gaby has been steadily cultivating prospects and adding to our new customer base in south-central Wisconsin. She also loves to laugh.

Miguel Torres

Sales Representative & Senior Operations Manager, Appleton

Miguel is a classic Environment Control “boomerang employee.” He joined Environment Control a few years ago as a Sales Representative, then left for a period of time, then recently returned when the opportunity arose to work in both Operations and Sales based at our Appleton office. Always friendly, Miguel can tell you a lot about cars and his sales philosophy. In late 2020 Miguel was promoted to the position of Senior Operations Manager assisting the Operations Managers in our Fox Valley and Milwaukee branches while focusing more on sales in Fox Valley. We are glad he’s growing with us.

Elizabeth Knapp

Operations Manager, Appleton

Liz began working with Environment Control in 2016 as a floater (a cleaner without a permanent assigned location who specializes in filling in when other cleaners are sick or on vacation) . At that time her mother-in-law also worked with the company as an Area Manager. Liz steadily moved up through Unit and Area Manager positions, and was recently promoted to Operations Manager. The Fox Cities and Green Bay region is spread out over a large area, requiring managers to be very efficient. Liz has done an amazing job getting to know the region and how best to meet our customers’ cleaning needs. She sees the sense of family within Environment Control as one of the main reasons she has persisted through the challenging work of cleaning management. She feels that her work is appreciated and she cares about her co-workers. We’re very glad to have Liz with us helping to foster that sense of family.

Heather Pohl

Senior Sales Representative, Waukesha

Heather joined Environment Control in late 2019 after a previous career in Janitorial Operations and Sales. Starting out in Operations, she never thought she would enjoy doing sales work. However, once she gave it a try, she really loved it. What does she really like about it? She likes talking with people and helping match them with the services they really need. Thanks to her dedication and energy our company has been gaining new customers steadily!

Sheila Conway

Operations Manager, Madison

Sheila began working with Environment Control in 2018 as a general cleaner, and quickly moved up to become an Area Manager. She brought exceptional bilingual skills to the job. Her native fluency in Spanish, and experience with Central American cultures, are evident every day, and have helped her become an effective manager. Sheila was promoted to Operations Manager position in early 2021.

Moraima Berrios

Operations Manager, Waukesha

Moraima started working with Environment Control in January 2021 as an Area Manager in the greater Milwaukee region. She was promoted to Operations Manager in October of the same year. That’s a testament to her management abilities! Moraima speaks English and Spanish fluently. Things she enjoys about working with EC: creating new relationships, building trust, job satisfaction, and the opportunity for growth. Outside of work, Moraima enjoys spending time outdoors, listening to music, and travel. Her current travel goal: Santorini, Greece.
